• NPA Pledges to Collaborate With NLNG

The Nigerian Ports Authority has pledged to engage more with the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas in order to jointly move the economy forward.

The Managing Director of the NPA, Hadiza Usman, gave this promise while playing host to the management of the NLNG in her office in Lagos.

A statement by the agency quoted Usman as saying that NPA would have a seamless communication and constructive engagement with the management of the NLNG with a view to promoting a harmonious inter-agency collaboration.

She added that the organisation would work assiduously to remain competitive in the sub-region through effective tariff regime.

Usman stressed that the NPA would ensure robust synergy with the management of the NLNG in order to enhance revenue generation accrued from its Bonny operations, adding that a committee comprising the NPA and the NLNG officials would meet in the coming days to look at the contentious issues between the two organisations so as to ensure the success of the NLNG projects.

The Managing Director of the NLNG, Mr. Tony Attah, was quoted in the statement as saying that the need to foster a stronger partnership with the NPA necessitated the visit by the NLNG team.

Meanwhile, the Board of Directors of the NPA has noted that the business potential at the nation’s disposal especially in its seaports will be swiftly harnessed with a view to improving revenue generation for the country.

It added that the move had become necessary, considering the level of downturn in the oil sector and efforts directed towards diversifying the economy through exportation of agricultural produce and mineral resources.

The Chairman of the NPA, Emmanuel Adesoye, made these remarks during an interactive session with stakeholders while on a tour of facilities in the Eastern Ports.

He stressed the need for all hands to be on deck through improved synergy, proper planning and meaningful sharing of information within the sector and beyond.

He affirmed that the board and the management were aware of numerous challenges facing the nation’s ports, adding that they were being attended to in the 2017 NPA budget.

The Port Manager, Delta Ports, Mr. Simeon Okeke, appealed for assistance concerning perimeter fencing to secure the port and the rehabilitation of infrastructure at the port located in Warri.
